Should I change my existing gig images according to the Fiverr gig image guideline recently update?

Fiverr is very particular about its terms and conditions. Another side to them is that, while they may have just “guidelines” for certain things, you will find that the platform promotes the gigs that implement these guidelines.

Guidelines and terms and conditions are made for the good of everyone on the platform. In the case of gig images, clients should easily know what you are doing from your gig title and your gig image should reaffirm that in the cleanest way possible. This means no fluff stuff, and don’t add unnecessary text and images.

Conclusion: Definitely, you should change your existing gig images according to the new Fiverr gig image guidelines from the recent update. There is a reason they sent it through all channels to make sure that all sellers see the information and use it.

Here are a few pointers if you are looking for specific things to look out for:

  • When using an image of yourself, make sure your image is facing the front, and not to either side of the design. Face the client to capture their attention. Good for making good first impressions. Shoot for professional images only.
  • You can also use your work. But most Fiverr sellers get it wrong here. Instead of adding all (or a lot) of your sample work, add one sample per image in order to leave a single lasting image instead of an overwhelming image with so many images of logos for instance if you are a graphic designer. A single logo in each image should be just perfect and you may not need to add any text. If adding text, make it simple, short, and straightforward.
  • If you happen to be using only text, make sure to keep it on the low. Use a phrase instead of a full sentence. List the single most important thing they need to know as against listing lots of things that get clients confused. Make sure text is centered so it can be correctly seen on all devices. Your text should not be mixed up with the background. Bext to use overlays to different text from the background where they are the same or similar colors.
  • You can also combine an image (yours or a stock image). I have already covered using your own image. If you are using a stock image, make sure you have the right license to use it. Fiverr has a stiff policy against using licensed work on the platform. At best, stick to stuff you create yourself, you would be safer that way.

NB: These are my key takeaways from the guidelines. You might want to check out the full article Fiverr released for more detailed stuff.
